Moisturizers
Simple is the best way to go when looking for good moisture for African skin. Choose one that suits your skin type.

Oily skin should use an oil-free moisturizer.
Dry Skin should choose a moisturizer with one or two natural oils. Do not over-grease your skin and avoid synthetic oils. They do nothing for your skin. Moisturizers based on plant oils have other benefits to your skin, other than just to moisturize and protect your skin.

Mature Skin should choose a moisturizer with anti aging properties. Do not be fooled into thinking that your African skin does not need anti aging. The sooner you start to think anti aging, the longer your skin will look young.

Acne prone skin types should choose a moisturizer with salicylic acid and/or other oil and acne controlling ingredients. On the alternatives, acne skin should apply an oil-free moisturizer after applying your acne treatment. Your skin needs extra mositure, especially while using acne products which tend to dry the skin.

Rough skin should use moisturizers that have either vitamin A, alpha hydroxy acids or other chemical exfoliants that can lightly exfoliate the skin to maintain smoothness.

People with uneven skin complexions should a good skin lightening product that will even out skin tone

Many people think that African skin does not require sunscreen, but this is not true. People of African descent can get skin cancers just like any other population. The sun can also damage skin, causing pigment changes and wrinkles. Protect your skin and your overall health by using sunscreen before heading out into the sun. Use a good moisturizer with sunscreen properties. Make sure you are protected against UVA/UVB exposure.

Use caution when choosing cosmetics. Try to stick to mineral-based products if you choose to wear makeup. Mineral-based products will not clog pores in the way that traditional makeup does, nor do they contain drying alcohol or other irritants. When possible, go without makeup and let your skin's natural beauty shine through.
